CASE STUDY

SMART PREVENTION OF FOREST DAMAGE

Bio-technical IoT Solution

Due to perfect conditions in recent years, the bark beetle reproduces rapidly. Entire forests are infested by it and die off. This IoT monitoring solution helps to detect the infestation at an early stage and initiate countermeasures.

Summary

Challenge

Manual monitoring solutions to detect a new bark beetle infestation are very work-intensive and time-consuming. Traps located around forests need to be manually controlled up to 30 times during the year. High personnel costs and limited accessibility lead to delays in countermeasures.

Solution

The new generation of the biotechnical IoT traps developed is equipped with a smart counting device. Data about population density and swarming behaviour is collected and sent to the Cloud. Forest rangers can have access to it remotely.
