Our team is seeking an experienced junior devops engineer / junior cloud operations to grow our technical team in February/March/Apr 2021 (flexible starting date). 

Embever is a tech startup founded in 2017 as a research project from the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität. Our office is in the city center of Magdeburg, a city full of history, green spaces and low living costs. A second office location where you could also work from the beautiful and great city Potsdam. We are developing tailored IoT solutions for customers but as a new objective for 2021, we are building up our own cloud product. Therefore, we are very excited to grow our team with a tech geek that shares our passion for technology and that helps with the development of our own IoT platform Embever IoT Core. This is a platform aimed at developers to build and operate IoT solutions with ease.

Objectives and responsibilities of this role

  • Dream, plan, build and continuously improve our cloud infrastructure and procedures

  • Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health.  

  • Consult with our product teams to help them to automate their workflows, reduce lead times, increase reliability and stability of their services.

  • Contribute to software architecture decisions, participate in infrastructure and backend code reviews to ensure solutions have the right balance between quality and impact.

  • Improve the resilience to inevitable failures

  • Extend our CI/CD pipelines to push code to production faster and safer

  • Improve monitoring of our platform and use this data as a source for further optimization of infrastructure

  • Create alerting processes for performance and or error events

  • Facilitate DevOps culture within the engineering team

Qualifications and requirements

  • 2+ years of working experience in DevOps

  • Strong hands-on experience with Cloud Platforms (AWS) and Docker

  • Good experience in Terraform

  • Good experience with Python

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, CI, build processes, testing, and operations.

  • Experience with logging and monitoring applications (Elastic stack, Prometheus)

  • Fun person to work with

  • Fluent in English

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL

  • Experience working with UDP based protocols

  • German language
